BADC Hosts Judicial Delegation from Argentina at Richly Historic Dolly Madison House

On a beautiful summer night in July with Lafayette Square and the White House in view, a judicial delegation from Argentina was feted by the BADC at the Dolly Madison House, a location known for its lush traditional décor.
Chief Judge Paul R. Michel, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Appeals for the Federal Circuit welcomed all to the Dolly Madison House which is part of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Complex by sharing the rich history of the house.

In her remarks, BADC President Paulette Chapman welcomed Supreme Court Justice Gustavo Bossert and his delegation and applauded the work of the Judicial Academy. She told the guests that the BADC looked forward to visiting their beautiful city Buenos Aires in May for the BADC annual convention trip. The judges graciously insisted that a reception be held in their country for the BADC.

“The highlight of the evening was when Madame Claudia Marchetti, wife of the Hon. Victor Sordero Nievas, a visiting judge, volunteered to sing an aria. It was mesmerizing to hear such a beautiful voice from a lovely Argentinean singer standing in this historic parlor room filled with lawyers and judges from our country and hers. It was spellbinding.” said Foundation of the BADC President Chris Hoge.

The delegation was visiting Washington DC under the auspices of the International Judicial Academy (IJA) headed by James G. Apple, Chairman of the Board, President, and founding Director and Former Chief, Interjudicial Affairs Office, United States Federal Judicial Center. The IJA is a non-profit educational institution chartered in the District of Columbia, established in October, 1999 to provide the highest quality education programs for judges, court administrators, justice ministry officials, and other legal professionals from countries around the world. It provides instruction on how judges and court personnel should function in a modern, fair, efficient, accessible and transparent court system. (Visit http://www.ijaworld.org ).

In June, The Honorable Joan Zeldon, Superior Court Judge and Chief of the Civil Division, had traveled as part of an American delegation to Buenos Aires, Argentina at the invitation of the IJA where she noted, “I was thrilled by the city, by the warmth of the people and by their desire to adopt American principles of democracy and the rule of law. They adopted our Constitution as a framework for their own.”

BADC thanks the co-sponsoring organizations for their participation: The Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia, International Aviation Women’s Association and The Washington Foreign Law Society.
