What is YLS? Quite simply, the Young Lawyers Section of the Bar
Association of the District of Columbia (YLS) is the premier
association of young and new lawyers admitted to practice in the District
of Columbia.
Guided by YLS's Mission Statement, YLS is an
innovative, creative and effective force in the DC legal community, making
its presence and talent known both locally and nationally. For example,
under the umbrella of YLS is Operation Crackdown,
the nationally recognized legal assistance program that provides D.C.
neighborhood associations and community development groups with free legal
representation to combat drug nuisance properties.
YLS aids and promotes the advancement of young and
new lawyers and fosters discussion and interchange of ideas relative to
their duties, responsibilities and concerns. YLS Members receive notice of
programs, panel discussions, brown bag lunches and speeches that spotlight
issues of concern to young and new public and private sector lawyers. Our
programs cover a range of topics relevant to today's young lawyers and
also provide valuable networking opportunities. And of course, YLS
promotes wider acquaintance among the Young Lawyers of the District of
Columbia and brings them together in professional and social activity. For
a list of our current events, check out YLS's Upcoming Events.
Don't let the "Y" in "YLS" throw you: the Young Lawyers Section is for
members of the BADC who are (1) 37 years of age or younger or (2) have
first been admitted to the bar of any jurisdiction for a period of five
years or less.
Want to join? We thought so. Just complete and send in the membership
